Short outage for upgrade

There will be a short 2-5 minute outage to perform a system upgrade

Replace CPU (again!)

The last CPU IBM sent us was the wrong part. They have sent us the correct part now, and we have taken server1 down again to replace the CPU. It should be back up in a few minutes.

Update: the new part is now in place and works perfectly. The problem is resolved.

Hardware replacement

Please note that the server will be taken down for 30 minutes at midnight EST Feb 10, 2004. To see this time in your timezone, please click here.

This outage is required to replace a faulty processor. Mail will be queued on our backup servers during this time and will be delivered to your mailbox as soon as the outage is complete.

Update: the outage is now completed

Brief outage required

We have found the cause of a performance problem on one server. It looks likely to be due to failing to give Linux enough ‘low memory’. Changing this unfortunately requires a server reboot.

So, we’ll be rebooting the servers in around 10 minutes. This will take 10-15 minutes to complete.

Server reboot completed

The server has been rebooted and all services restored

Server requires reboot

One of the servers requires an emergency reboot. This will only affect some users. The server should be back in about 15 minutes

Outage complete

The kernel upgrade is complete. We apologise for the outage. With this upgrade, we expect that FastMail.FM will be faster and more secure than ever!

Scheduled outage

We need to update our servers’ operating system kernel to ensure secure and reliable operation. This will result in a half hour outage, at 9pm NY time.

Update: the outage may be half an hour longer than expected, in order to resolve a configuration problem with 2 servers.

Update: we’ve now determined the configuration problem, but it’s going to take a little longer than expected to resolve. Probably at least till 11pm NY time
