Move of servers finished, remaining issues

All machines have now been moved. There are some remaining issues being worked on:

  1. There appear to be some network packet loss problems. NYI are investigating these for us
  2. One of the IMAP servers has some data corrupted requiring a fsck of drives. This is only affecting about 1/5 of users. We’ll update as we have more information

Update: The network issues appear to be solved. Packet loss has been resolved. The IMAP server is still being checked.

Move about to start

The move is about to start. We’ll be taking down all services in a minute or two

Update: All servers are off and being moved

Update: Our core database server and some imap servers have been moved and are back up. Some users should be able to login via IMAP now. The rest of the servers are being moved now

Update: Most IMAP servers are back up, just one to go. The logging server and outgoing mail server will be moved shortly. There may be short delays on outgoing email while this happens

Update: The outgoing main server is back up, so email should be sent normally. One of the IMAP servers is having problems starting. We’re trying to work out why.

Outage to move servers to new cabinets on Jun 3, 6PM EST (NYC) time

Over the last week we’ve been moving servers to our new cabinets at NYI. These new cabinets have been setup to allow our new replicated infrastructure setup to be rolled out where there will be redundant copies of all data on at least 2 servers at any one time. We’ve moved all the servers we can without causing significant outages, but at this point we need to move the remaining servers. This move will occur at 6PM EST (NYC time) on June 3 (today). You can see this time in your timezone here: June 3, 6PM EST. We believe the outage will take no more than 2 hours. We will keep people updated on our status blog at http://status.fastmail.fm as the move occurs.
